Aela attended 2016 Biobío Energy Congress

Concepción, 24 October 2016

Daniel Garrido, Commercial Manager of Aela, addressed the evolution and future of wind energy at the recent Biobío Energy Congress.

The Congress was attended by local authorities, foreign delegations, energy industry leaders, scholars and students. In addition to Daniel Garrido, Claudio Seebach, Executive Vice President of Asociación de Generadoras de Chile, Sebastián Abogabir, Executive Vice President of APEMEC, Rosa Serrano of Empresas Eléctricas Asociación Gremial, Amparo Domínguez, Director of Asociación Nacional de ANESCO Chile A.G., Cristian Espinoza, Manager of FENACOPEL and Darío Morales, Director of Centros Tecnológicos CORFO made presentations during the opening session.

“..sustaining this growth requires a better transmission system, with complementarity between renewable and non-renewable conventional energies that can be flexible or store energy..”

Daniel Garrido

Garrido’s presentation focused primarily on growing global investment in non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE), through policies and binding mechanisms, and reduced technology costs. He also presented an overview of NCREs in Chile, in particular wind energy, and short term projections, in line with the results of the latest tender and the projects under assessment and construction.

As for the future, and Chile’s 70% renewable source matrix projection, both Garrido and Seebach agree that sustaining this growth requires a better transmission system, with complementarity between renewable and non-renewable conventional energies that can be flexible or store energy. Likewise, communities will continue to be key stakeholders and local development will be a requirement for energy projects.
