Aela’s participation in CIGRE seminar

Santiago, September 12, 2016

Aela Senior Commercial Analyst César Vásquez played a central part at the Cigré Seminar held last Monday 12 September on “Renewable Energy: long term outlook and how to meet goals,” where he talked about development poles, potential users, the ERNC component and clearance in transmission.

He shared the panel with Eric Ahumada, Transelec vice president of business development, Iván Saavedra, chief of the National Energy Commission’s Electricity Department, and Daniel Gutiérrez, an attorney and partner-director of the consulting firm BGS Energy Law.

In addition, one question from Mr. Vázquez's presentation that stood out had to do with the impact that clearances in transmission will have and the importance that the administrative timing of processes associated with the definition of these poles be in tune with the timelines required to develop and finance a renewable energy project.

The event was marked by Eric Ahumada’s talk on Development Poles and how they would mostly favor mini-hydro and geothermal projects. The executive said that the geographical conditions and access to trunk lines for this type of project are different from wind and solar power projects, which would not need to be subject to development poles because of their competitiveness and capacity to find locations closer to trunk lines.
